I'm sorry I wasn't more miserable...said no one...ever.
Before I say anything else here, just take a moment to consider this question.
Bring to mind a situation in your life right now that you're not really enjoying and ask:
"What if I just enjoyed the process?"
Sit with that and notice what comes up for you.
What thoughts are coming to mind?
How has your breathing changed?
Have your shoulders softened?
What ideas are popping?
This might be a good time to grab a notepad and jot down some thoughts or inspirations.
I recognize that enjoying the process might seem like the last thing you want to do when you're feeling crappy or hopeless or stuck. Regardless, it's worth asking the question because if nothing else, it won't make the situation any worse! If it happens to lighten up and become more enjoyable then that's a bonus. That can't happen as long as you remain committed to it being horrible or however you'd describe it. Best case scenario, you're completely blown away and have the time of your life.
Here's the thing.
Our enjoyment or lack of enjoyment of an experience is based on our perspective on what's going on. That's why one person can go crazy over a sports game while another could just as well nap through it.
My point of view is that I don't want to waste my time not enjoying myself. I hold enjoyment, fun and pleasure high on my list of values so I'm not willing to have a miserable time if i can possibly avoid it. There are events and experiences I can't easily avoid so instead I adjust my attitude and allow myself to find something entertaining, meaningful or educational about what's going on.
Years ago I read Marianne Williamson's book A Return to Love and there was a line that changed everything for me and the other ladies in the book club. It was this: "Would you be willing to see this differently?" At the time, I made bookmarks for everyone with this printed on them so we could all continue to challenge ourselves to be open to seeing any situation that didn't please us, differently. It made a massive difference in all our lives and many of them still remember that question.
If you want more enjoyment:
You are going to have to increase your willingness to see things differently.
You are going to have to increase your willingness to not be the victim of your circumstances.
This is about you not making a situation wrong so that you can be right.
It's about you choosing joy over suffering. It's about you showing the universe that you'd like to have more fun with life and you will find a way to use whatever it gives you for that to happen.
You know what happens after that??
Way more fun! More experiences that are easy to enjoy. More play, more curiosity, more adventure and more of the things you love start to show up. I think that makes it totally worthwhile, don't you?
Experiment, get curious and...have fun with this!
Lots of Love,
